Perhaps this is what happens when you read too many disjointed sentences!  “Separation Anxiety”  by Norma Thomas was photographed in Port Perry.

If you want to get off the couch and mingle with the “literati”, you should attend the Festival of Authors, a Saturday night celebration at The Ontario Writers’ Conference with author readings, an opportunity to meet Canadian authors and tantalizing food with a cafe vibe.

Ajax Waterfront Tour

+1Share on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin it on Pinterest

It’s close to daffodil time but we probably still have to bundle up to brave the “bracing” wind (a euphemism for cold) down on the lakefront in Ajax.  That said, the Ajax Waterfront Tour will ventilate the lungs!

Veteran’s Point Gardens, (shown here) is located at the foot of Harwood Avenue.  It commemorates the Town’s history and is dedicated to the HMS Ajax, the Defence Industries Limited (D.I.L.) Plant, and the employees who made this area their home during WWII.

There is interpretive signage located throughout the park which celebrates the cultural heritage and history of Ajax, and WWII. In honour of Ajax’s naval history, architects designed this memorial to resemble a ship – the street lights serve to appear like masts, and the information area was designed with features common to a ship’s bow.

“Winter’s Blast” by George Forgie might be motivation to stay inside in the warm.  On the other hand, original visual art like this is there to enjoy in the Old Pickering Village in Ajax at Cultural Expressions Gallery, and perhaps transport us to warmer climates!  Owner Esther Forde aims to expand our creative consciousness to many cultures and ethnicities.  To that end the gallery represents artists from five continents and over twelve countries – including Canada – through a diverse collection of paintings, sculpture and jewellery.
