Ice Fishing on Lake Simcoe

January 27th, 2012 by My Durham Desktop

Unless there are too many balmy winter days, Lake Simcoe is usually a beehive of fish huts, snowmobiles and fishermen. So great is the enthusiasm that many fishing hut operators maintain heated huts and furnish transportation, food, bait, tackle and other facilities to the angling public. Catches of fish vary during the winter but it seldom happens that any group is frozen out - according to Fish in Ontario, lake trout, whitefish, panfish, pike, walleye, ling are the most common species taken.

Beaver River Museum

August 16th, 2010 by My Durham Desktop

Beaverton

The Beaverton Thorah Eldon Historical Society operates the Beaver River Museum which consists of an 1850’s log cabin, a turn of the century brick house, and a mid 19th century stone jail, furnished with local artifacts.  Annually, about 1000 people enjoy touring the buildings from late May to the end of September.  And there’s a bonus,  if your family history is linked to the area, their geneological resources are a great place to begin your research.
