Ice Fishing on Lake Simcoe

January 27th, 2012 by My Durham Desktop

Unless there are too many balmy winter days, Lake Simcoe is usually a beehive of fish huts, snowmobiles and fishermen. So great is the enthusiasm that many fishing hut operators maintain heated huts and furnish transportation, food, bait, tackle and other facilities to the angling public. Catches of fish vary during the winter but it seldom happens that any group is frozen out - according to Fish in Ontario, lake trout, whitefish, panfish, pike, walleye, ling are the most common species taken.

Ontario Family Fishing Week

July 2nd, 2011 by My Durham Desktop

You could be hooked, but I guess that’s the idea behind Ontario Family Fishing Week!  Anyway it’s a chance to go fishing without a licence anywhere that fishing is normally allowed.  As part of it, Darlington Provincial Park is hosting Family Fishing Day on July 9th for some catch and release licence-free fishing in Picnic Area #4 by McLaughlin Bay. Some Tackleshare rods and reels will be available for loan, as well as worms for the fish and free hotdogs and drinks for the kids.
