Oshawa Peony Festival – June 16 & 17

+1Share on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin it on Pinterest

Esteemed in Chinese culture, the peony is a symbol for nobility and value and became popular in the imperial palaces during the Sui and Tang dynasties, earning the title of the “king of flowers.”  This weekend we get to see a showcase of one of Canada’s largest contemportary peony collections.  Apart from over 300 varieties in the gardens themselves, the event organizers have packed these two days with so much more, including expert advice and demonstrations, musical entertainment and cultural performances, Canadian Peony Society’s judged Peony Show.   On top of all that, there’s free admission to the gardens and free parking!

It’s spring - officially that is! Do we dare to start imagining the garden dressed in green?   I’m thinking a trip to Richters Herbs could quell the cabin fever.  At Richters they have enough mint to fill a garden; I counted about 9o varieties, including “Banana Mint” and “Marshmallow Mint”!
