Group of Seven: beyond landscape

+1Share on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin it on Pinterest

May brings an exciting new exhibit to the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa. Drawn from the gallery’s extensive Canadian collection, Symphonious Realm: Celebrating the 90th Anniversary of the Group of Seven, commemorates the 90th anniversary of the group’s first exhibition. Although we tend to think of the Group as Canadian landscape painters, curator Alyssia Nelson has created an exhibit that shows a much broader range. Portraits, First World War scene, cartoons and even nudes show a much broader side to the early 20th century artists who forged an Canadian art identity. Music by the Rheostatics completes the Canadiana. The exhibit runs until August 26.
