Ajax Waterfront Tour

+1Share on TwitterShare on LinkedInPin it on Pinterest

It’s close to daffodil time but we probably still have to bundle up to brave the “bracing” wind (a euphemism for cold) down on the lakefront in Ajax.  That said, the Ajax Waterfront Tour will ventilate the lungs!

Veteran’s Point Gardens, (shown here) is located at the foot of Harwood Avenue.  It commemorates the Town’s history and is dedicated to the HMS Ajax, the Defence Industries Limited (D.I.L.) Plant, and the employees who made this area their home during WWII.

There is interpretive signage located throughout the park which celebrates the cultural heritage and history of Ajax, and WWII. In honour of Ajax’s naval history, architects designed this memorial to resemble a ship – the street lights serve to appear like masts, and the information area was designed with features common to a ship’s bow.

Our Waterfront Trail

My Toronto friends pack up their bikes and drive out here to enjoy the Waterfront Trail from Pickering to Clarington.   Me, I forget that I live next to such an amazing lakefront, only to be reminded when I’m on the 401 and glimpse the glistening waters of McLaughlin Bay.  Why is it when something’s so accessible, you’re apt to take it for granted?
