The Dragon Flies 2011 Dragon Boat Festival

Don’t mess with these dragons, they’re fiece and they have a cause!

On June 18, an estimated two thousand paddlers and festival patrons come together in Palmer Park on the shores of Lake Scugog in Port Perry to celebrate the energy of life and to promote Breast Cancer awareness.  This year 57 teams are registered, names like ”Hope it Floats” , “SNAP Dragons” and “The Soggy Bottom Girls” capture the spirit of the event!

And they might have the weather on their side! In China, dragons are traditionally believed to be the rulers of rivers, lakes and seas and to dominate the clouds and the rains of heaven.  Dragon Boat racing has been the basis for water rituals and festival celebrations for 2,500 years.
